1K∆ - The £1K House, Murunyu, Kenya
The 1K House is a project that I came to in the 1st year of my 2-year post-grad Dip.Arch at The Glasgow School of Art. The project was focused on bringing a low-cost housing solution to a rural community in Kenya about 150km north of Nairobi, whilst also empowering the local community, particularly disadvantaged women, through participation in the construction of the project.
I came to the project in its second year. A team of 5? students had devised a system of building primarily with earth from the site and this had resulted in them traveling to Murunyu to build a "prototype" for one of the women of Murunyu and her familiy.
